Back at the vet

An update on Inigo: he was fainting again on the weekend. He's been in to see the kitty cardiologist today and she wants to keep him for the next couple of days. The fluid is back in his chest, and she had to drain it again.

His blood pressure was very low because of the diuretic he was on to help with the fluid (which wasn't working anyway) she's cut back on it as part of his treatment, and she's going to try a different diuretic that will act in a different way and will help keep his blood pressure normal.

The rumble parents were so happy to see him back to his normal self. He must have been in so much pain with the low blood pressure and fluid build up. He purred SO loud, and he was happy to see Thwack and his brush. He ate quite a bit which was good, since he hasn't really been eating on the weekend.

We're all hoping the new medications will help. We can't stand to see him suffer, he's such a sweet and gentle boy.

Good to hear the updates - Poor Inigo no wonder he kept fainting with low blood pressure, now if they can just figure why he collects fluid so often. Mum wants to get all technical and has some questions for you below, I meanwhile wish him and you many purrs and nosetaps!

Mum's technical questions (Assume they are convinced it is heart related? Have they tested the fluid being drained to see what it's composition is? Has he had anything done near his chest recently? bloods etc? )

Mom and I are sorry to hear about Inigo's fainting, but if his blood pressure was really low, that makes sense. Mom says she doesn't think you should believe the low blood pressure caused him pain, and probably not even the fluid. My Grandpa had congestive heart failure, which causes fluid like that, and he wasn't in pain, but did feel very lethargic and didn't have a good appetite. We wouldn't want you to do anything drastic because you were thinking Inigo was experiencing a lot of pain from this. I will purr for the cardiologist to find a good match for his medicine.

They've tested for infection and bacteria (it was fine on both) they're pretty sure it's heart failure, he's had an ultrasound of his heart taken and it looks like the muscle is very enlarged. We'e so lucky, he's gotten in to see a cat cardiologist (who knew? there is one in lower hut, so close to home for us) and she really cares about him, you can see it when she talks about him.

I guess our big concern is that he not suffer. He was so depressed all weekend, we really thought it was going to be the end for him. He was so improved when we saw him,

Omc! Simba we just saw your post, thank you so much for saying that. The humans are so upset thinking they're causing him pain!! Thank you thank you thank you.

Ok good they ruled out infection, in hoomans sometimes this weird thing called chylothorax can occur where lymphathic fluid collects in the chest and I just googled it, it can happen in cats too!! Might be worth a mention and if the vet scowls just say some crazy person told you to ask it! USS shows enlarged heart muscle could be cause of or result of something else. Yes we agree with Simba, he is young and too adorable to make hurried decisions, he no doubt feels v sorry for himself but not likely pain? Paws crossed and keep us posted.

I'm so glad that Inigo has such a wonderful cardiologist, and that he has been feeling better. I can see that there are other commenters who seem to know something about this type of thing, at least in humans. I don't, so the best I can do is send him lots of purrs and licks and all the good energy I can muster up.

We're purring that the new nedication will do the trick and everything will be back to normal before you know it.

We are continuing to purr for darling Inigo. Mum has more experience with dogs with heart problems, but in her experience they do not seem to be in pain.It must be really difficult at this stage when the vets are working out his medications. It is wonderful that he has such a great vet.

Oh my goodness sweet Inigo!! Me and Charlie are purring very loudly for you! We are also sending tons and tons of kitty hugs and kisses your way! Please please please get better! We're so glad the new meds regime is working better than the previous one - fainting is NOT a good thing for kitties so we are very glad that the vets have sorted that out.

We are also sending tons of purrs and hugs to your rumblemum and dad and of course adorable Rumbles! Take care

We are so glad that Inigo is being so well taken care of! We adore him and keep purring and praying for him!

Mom here - I can't speak for everyone but the two humans I have known with congestive heart failure (so fluid around the heart) didn't really experience pain, just that fatigue and some fainting (that is actually how they found it in my dad - he fainted at the doctors - he was there for a totally different reason and had no indication there was any heart issue). As I am not a medical professional, I can't say what happens for everyone, but I can tell you what I know from the people I know, and pain was not one of the issues. Based on the other comments, this sounds like the norm, not the exception. We are crossing our fingers and paws and purring and praying that they can figure out his correct meds quickly so he can get home and back to normal.

So he is at the vet now, as I understand it?

I had wondered if the meds were having side effects....I'm glad the vet is putting him on something else (has put him on). Fingers and paws crossed this one works well without adverse side effects.

Lots of kitty kisses and purrs to sweet Inigo and big hugs to mum!

Biggest purry hugs Prince Cuddlington!

Yes my grandad hooman has congestive heart failure and had an episode a month or two ago with a lot of fluid buildup and breathlessness and then a fainting spell (due to low blood pressure plus other medication he was on for a different issue). No pain apparently, just some tightness where the fluid was building up and tiredness and breathlessness.

Paws crossed that new medication does the trick xx
