Inigo update, and answering some questions from yesterday - Rumblemum

Hi all,

Inigo has spent the day with the kitty cardiologist today. The news is better than it was a couple of days ago, but still not where we'd like it to be. His weight, while still low, has stayed the same. His kidney function is the same. The fluid in his chest is the same, and his BP is slightly better. The vet was much more optimistic, especially when combined with  stories of how well he's been acting. I haven't heard anything about the infection (I forgot to ask when I rang, and I couldn't go with Rumbledad to pick him up as I had afternoon meetings - Rumbledad isn't home yet)

We've gotten so many sweet emails with suggestions, including some really good natural options. Thank you to you all.

Now! To answer some questions from yesterday:

Mr Puddy suggested a yummy brand of food called 'Fine meat for cats': We hadn't heard of that brand before! Rumblemum is gonna look tomorrow at the shop for 'Fine meat for cats'

Simba asked if some of the weight loss was from the fluid, and if maybe the medicine was making him feel unwell which is why he's not eating: Some of the weight was from the fluid, and there was some concern that the medicine was making him feel unwell, but he's been getting anti-nausea shots and he's got an antacid to take. Thank you so much for your purrs and good thoughts.

Admiral Hestorb thought maybe he'd been mis-weighed: It's a good thought, unfortunately he's been getting weighed weekly at two different vets (we'd actually thought the same thing initially, that they'd just mis-weighed him)

Lita suggested some brilliant food ideas: Thank you so much, we've got an Asian grocer really close to us, I'll get some chicken essence tomorrow!! What a great idea and I'd never have thought of it!

Fin thought maybe it was a cold that was making it hard to smell the food: Actually I thought exactly the same thing, because his nose was so goopy. The vet's said that it's dehydration that's making his nose really dry, and we're taking him in every other day now to get him hydrated.

To you all - I'm so grateful for all the kind words, and I tell Inigo every night how much love comes from his online friends. Thank you so much for your support and suggestions.

We are so hoping that Inigo's problems clear up soon, and he can be completely back to his old self. As we go through Jack's conditions at the same time, we are thinking of you quite a bit. So many vet visits (and bills that you just have to worry about later), treatments, signs to watch for, and spectrum of feelings. Our hearts are with you.

Inigo,

The brand of the finest mince for cat is " V.I.P Pet Food" ( I might wrote something wrong ! ) or other name is " Gourmet Fresh " Hope it can help

Ingio, we hope you enjoy trying all of your new noms. When mums old cat Puss had kidney failure and little appetite, the vet said we could let her have some fatty things if that was what she wanted, and she used to enjoy margarine or caramel yoghurt. I think coz they were cool as well, they helped her.

Hugs

I wish I could do more for Inigo, but being in California and unfamiliar with the type of illness he is going through, all I can do is send him lots of purrs and healing thoughts. I'm glad there are so many others offering helpful suggestions.

Gosh, we are glad to hear that Inigo is doing kind of all right. At least no more horrible news.
I betcha he isn't eating because he can't smell the food. I know other people have said that but we are just putting my two cents in.
Anyway, we sure hope he continues to get better and starts to eat. Take care

I'm so glad Inigo is holding his own! For the goopy nose, you might try very gentle saline nose drops. At the shelter, they used "Lil Noses" which is formulated for babies. It's just sterile saline which can help clear up the congestion and make it easier to breathe. Just one or two drops per nostril!

I'm hoping Inigo decides it's time to turn this bus around and start eating and getting back to his old self.

Just got a chance to catch up on the last few days. I'm glad that there is some more positive news now. Hopefully with all these suggestions, you all can find something Inigo absolutely can't resist.

Please tell him me, Pimp and Moo are thinking about him and give him a little extra love from us!

Oh we are so behind and I am so sad to read that Inigo isn't doing great weight wise. I wish I had some suggestions to help him gain weight - with Floyd he would gain when on his antibiotics (can't explain why it worked but it did - even when the blood tests showed no infeciton). I would say that you just need to try and find something he likes and maybe give him extra "snack" meals. And baby food (meat without onions) is also a snack that cats usually like, so maybe that would be a good option.

We are sending him lots and lots of purrs and prayers and really hope he can start to put some weight back on. We know it can take time to get everything figured out with fluid around the heart and once it is worked out he will gain - we know some kitties who have had this and also some humans, and it can take a lot longer than you would think, which has to be so frustrating, but know that it can take a while - it feels like it has been forever with him already but really it hasn't been as long as it can take. We are sending you lots of hugs because we know this has to be so hard for you. We wish we could be more help.
